As promised, I created my own version of this captivating dress to wear right now --and you never know --it could very well transport you back to 1920's Paris!
I spent a lot of time draping this easy, pull on style to create a very flattering silhouette which you may order in either a heavy ivory rayon crepe or a dressier silk chiffon. You may request some added length, as needed, and your dress will arrive with its own pretty slip.
The detailed red filigree trim is hand painted in my design studio, so each individual dress is one of a kind and the ornate designs will vary slightly from dress to dress.

A fragrant thicket of mint greets you as you walk into a lush garden filled with raised beds of colorful chard, cornstalks and bursting clumps of lettuces and other herbs and vegetables. Where are you?
The 24th Street School kitchen garden, hidden away in the Adams district near downtown Los Angeles. A haven of growing goodness wedged at the far end of the asphalt schoolyard, this 3/4 acre plot is the prototype for a school garden envisioned by the Garden School Foundation.
Some people may be familiar with this garden because chef Nancy Silverton has long associated herself with the the program, as well as noted landscape designer and artist, Nancy Goslee Powers, who developed the garden plan.
Here, students learn about the benefits of gardening, fresh produce and growing and preparing their own fresh and healthy food...

and the creepy crawling benefits of worms and compost bins.
For the elementary students at the 24th Street School, the garden is also a bit of a sanctuary. They'll choose to sit in the soothing shaded areas with crayons and coloring books for their lunch hour or dance happily together in the greenery at recess.
It is an impressive place and the positive effects are in evidence not just in the bounty of the carefully tended sections --like the Salsa Garden or the orchard fruit trees --but in the smiling faces of the students eagerly asking questions. They're having so much fun, they forget they're learning.
Tonight, Saturday, October 22nd in Santa Monica is a benefit for the program, with cocktails, food and music.

I 'm partial to cloth napkins and one of my favorites is classic white cotton damask. My grandmother placed starched stacks of them in her huge linen closet. As a child, I remember feeling very grown up and elegant when I smoothed mine across my lap at her formal Thanksgiving dinner table. I have some of hers now and happily set them out for special dinners and something about their substantial heft is very pleasing and reassuring and makes even the simplest meal that much more meaningful.
I recently scooped up a cache of lovely vintage damask napkins (circa 1925) that are similar and very soft and drapey. I was told they were stored for years and forgotten in a dowry chest. Hard to know for sure but these nicely preserved 16" x 16" squares can be an "instant heirloom" for your own special occasions. We have a few sets of 6 at the shop or on line:
