Just had to sit down and eat something while I waited for the train...

I forgot about Bustelo

When I grew up in  New York, Bustelo used to be the only espresso you could always find in the supermarket --and it was reasonable.  I rediscovered it when I was in New York this last trip and it was a delicious reunion...it brews a rich cafe au lait and a lovely, dark espresso.   Can't seem to find it easily in Los Angeles, and I'm sorry about that.

Found this by chance when I happened to walk into a non-descript building off broadway 

We went for Picasso and got sidetracked by Ringo's Gold Drum...

After braving the crowds of the Picasso exhibit just before it closed, we were lured to another part of the Met with signs about Ringo's Gold Drum.  I never knew he had a gold drum...but we went to take a look.  There it was, with signs of real use, but it was a very smart way to bring us to a little wing I'd never been to before  filled with amazing musical instruments...

A  lovely, quiet and uncrowded gallery filled with magical and rare pieces like these:

A Delft Ceramic Horn (in "F")

An incredible guitar with carved, inlay and painted decorations

 

A Violetta: a specially shaped viola from the renaissance and one of four in the world

And a trio of exquisitely detailed miniature string instruments used in the 1700's

This is just a sampling of an extroadinary array of instruments in a serene setting -- definitely worth a trip when you're in New York.

NY-Taxi repair shop still life

When you're stopped in traffic and the meter is ticking...

Your cab driver (on headphones, natch) suddenly bolts 3 lanes to the left between a bus, a cyclist and 2 other cars. While you compose yourself,  since you do end up at your destination in one piece after all... instead of vitriol, just remember that this is the machinery that makes NYC  taxi magic:

 
I find something sort of beautiful about taxi innards...and I like to know they stay properly tuned

Manhattan's Glorious Spring Tulips

I love NY in the springtime...  Beautiful pops of color to  make you smile and brighten  the city.
